Red Cross - Water Safety for Kids

Ages 10 Years & Up

(Prerequisite - Learn to Swim Level 5 and above)
 

Are you planning a summer vacation or trying to earn a merit badge for Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts? Water safety education teaches people person survival and water rescue skills. Research provides evidence of a strong link between water safety education and a reduction in drowning deaths. (Min/Max: 3/10)

You will learn:
    •  General guidelines for staying safe around water.
    •  Proper use and application of life jackets.
    •  Safety from environmental hazards.
    •  Recognizing an emergency.
    •  Basic water rescues.

Discover Scuba

Ages: 10 years and up

 

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to find out, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge, Discover Scuba Diving will let you try scuba to see if you like it. While not an actual scuba certification, during the Discover Scuba Diving experience, you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. Toucan Dive will provide all necessary materials for the program. All participants must sign a safety waiver to take part in this class.

PADI Open Water Diver Certification

Ages: 10 years and up

 

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures, or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba program and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle. This class will teach you everything you need to know to become a certified diver. It combines classroom and pool sessions that will teach each diver the basic principles of diving, as well as allow you to practice both confined and open water dives. Toucan Dive will provide all necessary materials at orientation. All participants must sign safety waiver.

Adult Lap Swim

Ages 14 years and up

June 8 - August 14
Monday - Friday
6:00am - 8:00am & 6:00 - 8:00pm

 

Lap swimming is available for Lap Swim Pass Holders, Pool Pass Holders, and free for Fitness Center members. Only Pool Pass Holders may lap swim during normal pool hours. Lap swim hours may vary due to Pool Special Events.

 

Lap Swim Guidelines

 

The lap swim pass is valid during lap swim hours only and must be swiped in order to swim (sorry, no exceptions). If you fail to bring your pass, you will be required to pay the pool daily fee in order to lap swim. Not responsible for lost or stolen pass cards.

 

Three lap lanes are guaranteed during all open swim hours. Lap swimmers are expected to circle-swim to the right when there are more than two swimmers per lane. For the safety and comfort of our lap swimmers, lap swimming is available for patrons 14 and older who are able to demonstrate the following skills: rhythmic breathing; a structured stroke, and the ability to continuously swim 100 yards using one of the four structured strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, and butterfly).

Private Swim Lessons

Ages 4 years to Adult

 

Learn to swim with the benefit of a private instructor!

One-on-one lessons will be set up on a first-come, first-served basis. Lessons must be paid for in advance by registering at the front desk. The exact dates and times will be arranged with the assigned instructor, who will contact you after June 10. Refunds will not be given for missed lessons; sorry, no exceptions.

Aqua Aerobics

Circuit Challenge

 

A fun and exhilarating deep-water and cardiovascular workout. Join us for interval circuit training using resistance with hand buoys, noodles, and kickboards. For safety reasons, patrons must clear the pool deck when the class is over. The pool does not open until 12:00pm. Participants may dry off in the locker rooms.

Minimum/Maximum People: 8/20

 

Power Splash

 

This fun and energetic class utilizes a unique combination of movements to upbeat music. You’ll work all major muscle groups while keeping the heart rate elevated. Participants will be allowed to stay 20 - 30 minutes after class to dry off; the BPD asks that the aqua participants stay in the Adult Sun Deck area, which is located between the Lifeguard Office and the Concession Stand.
