Who We Are

For over 15 years, Kathy Walker and Barbara Thompson of the Barrington Park District have organized the Showcase of Arts and Crafts, which takes place the beginning of November every year. This two-day event is mixed media arts and crafts, showcasing artists from the Midwest. The free admission and parking allow the public a unique fair-going experience during the holiday season, including folk art, photography, stained glass, linens, interactive works, and jewelry, etc. The Barrington Park District has several rooms for you to view these creations, all on the main level and handicapped accessible.

Kathy and Barb put together this show because of their passion for the arts and the special relationships they have formed with the artists over the years. They both attend as many festivals as they can each year, always on the lookout for unique and talented artists. Kathy and Barb are detail-oriented, and have weekly meetings throughout the entire process. Their philosophy is simply to work together as a team to develop a show that brings forth quality and unusual hand-made items. The show is held prior to the holiday “rush,” and is an excellent time to begin your Christmas shopping, or just splurge a little on yourself.
