Sandbluff Bird Observatory in Rockton, IL & Lunch

Thursday, May 14
7:30am – 4:00pm
Fee: $50/$55
Location: Depart F&RC – Lobby for Rockton

Operated entirely by volunteers, mainly for research, this facility is fascinating to see in action. The volunteers collect migratory birds in nets set up in the woods. They band them and then provide educational information on the birds. It is amazing and surprising to see the types of birds going through our state and the impact of climate change. We will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the birds! The experience of seeing first-hand the birds that shape our planet will forever stay in your memory! Lunch will follow at the Machine Shed in Rockford where you will enjoy your choice of fried chicken or meatloaf (please make selection at time of registration). Meal includes cole slaw, cottage cheese, potato, vegetable, fresh baked breads and a beverage. Following our delicious meal, we will make a stop at the Burpee Museum of Natural History for a docent tour of dinosaurs and fossils. There will be additional time to explore the museum following the tour.

Registration deadline: May 1 (spaces permitting).

Be ready for moderate walking on uneven nature paths.

Transportation provided via Park District van.
