If you missed your first chance\, we are revisiting the #1 attraction in the State of Illinois! On this tour we will begin our day at the rustic Starved Rock Lodge for lunch in the main dining room. You will have the opportunity to make a menu selection from several savory options. Hot or iced tea\, lemonade\, or a soft drink are included. We will then board a trolley to transport us to the boat where we will take a boat tour of the Illinois River. This is the perfect way to learn about the rich history of the Starved Rock area. The trip concludes with one last stop at the Lodge to visit the gift shop. Registration/cancellation deadline: September 19 (spaces permitting). DESCRIPTION:Sec.#\nDay\nDate\nTime\nFee\n\n\n01\nWed.\n10/30\n9:00am – 12:30pm\n$5/$8 (1 day)\n\n\n\nThe Salem Witch Trials and the Power of Fear is presented by history instructor and continuing education professor Joyce Haworth. Come and hear the spooky history of one of the famous Salem Witch Trials. In 1692\, a group of teenage girls began having bizarre and disturbing fits. They claimed that witches in the community were persecuting them and began naming names\, accusing first the poor and vulnerable and then the wealthy and respectable. In the following months fear gained the upper hand and legal safeguards went out of the window. In the course of things\, twenty people were executed. This lecture lays out the true story of one of the strangest and most painful episodes in American history.
