SUMMARY:Day Trip: Stronghold Castle Tour and Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Sec.#\nDay\nDate\nTime\nFee\n\n\n01\nWed.\n4/9\n9:00am – 3:30pm\n$48/$53 (1 day)\n\n\n\nBuilt between 1928 and 1930\, the Strong Castle was the summer home of Walter Strong and his family. This 80 year old building is designed to represent a traditional Tudor-style manor house. It boasts 10 bedrooms\, 8 bathrooms and a secret passage or two! The tour includes information about the Strong family\, the process of building their castle and brief touches of depression era history. Attendees also get a glimpse into castle structure and medieval life. After the tour we will enjoy our lunch of chicken fried chicken\, potatoes and gravy\, roasted veggies\, dinner rolls and dessert. Drinks include water\, lemonade and coffee. Weather permitting\, you will have time to explore the grounds. Considerable walking is involved with this trip. To enter the tower\, many stairs are involved. Registration/cancellation deadline: March 26 (spaces permitting). The museum showcases an unbelievable $6 million dollar collection of some of the rarest Titanic era exhibits. Following our visit to Volo\, we will head to Lindy’s Landing for lunch overlooking Bangs Lake. Please select from the following menu choices of chopped salad\, fried chicken breast on a bun or fish tacos. DESCRIPTION:Sec.#\nDay\nDate\nTime\nFee\n\n\n01\nWed.\n4/30\n10:45am – 3:30pm\n$72/$77 (1 day)\n\n\n\nBeginning in 1875\, the Kentucky Derby is the oldest continuously running sporting event in the nation. Put on your fanciest hat and join us as historian Leslie Goddard traces the history of the Derby and the traditions that make it so beloved. This presentation at the Jacob Henry Mansion in Joliet includes a self-guided tour and a fantastic lunch featuring the Derby’s famous Hot Brown. This hot\, open-faced turkey sandwich is topped with bacon\, tomato and a mornay sauce with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese\, complemented by potato wedges. A fresh tossed garden salad\, warm rolls\, whipped butter\, dessert\, coffee or tea are also included. There is a cash bar available for other beverages. Moderate walking is involved with this trip. Registration/cancellation deadline: April 11 (spaces permitting).
