In 2018, the Barrington Park District and the Village of Barrington entered into an intergovernmental agreement for a land swap of Miller Park for Meinhard Park (now called Concord-Meinhard Park) to address the stormwater/drainage/flooding in the surrounding area. It was equally important to have a playground in the neighborhood. Losing the ADA accessible playground located in Miller Park, it was decided to provide an ADA inclusive playground at Concord-Meinhard Park. The Park District staff conducted numerous meetings with residents from the neighborhood. A final design was agreed upon and the playground is now ready for play!
As a result of a grant that was received, we are pleased to announce that Concord-Meinhard Playground is a National Demonstration Site. This playground addresses the 7 Principles of an Inclusive Playground. The site features a layout and equipment that address the following areas of development: cognitive, communicative, sensory, physical and social/emotional. The park has play features that are designed for children 2 – 5 years and 5 – 12 years old. We can’t wait to see our patrons enjoying this beautiful new addition to the Park District!
